As part of the presentation to procure the architectural commission, Mozingo+ Wallace provided simple simple schematic design: The architecture extends the existing terminal, but calls for a curved facade, bending inward towards the vehicular lanes, such that approaching drivers can readily identify the distinct departure terminals from afar. Each entrance is unique, identified by an internally lit tower with translucent glazing, visible both day and night. The towers are shaped to resemble aircraft wings. The internal concourse layout is not a linear continuation of the existing terminal, but rather it is angled, allowing for the insertion of a new gate closer to the existing gates. This configuration also provides for more area on the infield side of the terminal, both to taxi aircraft and for future gate expansion. In lieu of a multi-story parking garage, this design opts for a two-level parking area, the first level hidden by mounding turf against its perimeter wall. This proposal provides for not only long-term parking close to the terminals, but also a landscape facade to soften the impact of the vehicular requirements. The interior of the extension features an internal food court, surrounded on all sides by concourse. Its central location reduces circulation and keeps the service access to a single internal entrance.
