The Murrell’s Inlet /Garden City main station is designed to contain most of the District’s fire-fighting apparatus and to act as disaster headquarters for the are in case of a hurricane emergencies. This building houses its own emergency generator and maintenance shops for its equipment. The Kitchen is over-sized to enable the feeding of more than the on-duty staff. As a community facility, the building houses both a large training/meeting room and a bigger than average conference room. Both rooms are available for the public. Also in the building are living quarters, a day room, exercise room and offices for headquarters personnel. The exterior look is low and modern; however, the colors were chosen to imitate the white trim and weathered gray siding typical of older homes in the area. Construction: Pre-engineered steel frame system with c.m.u. walls at equipment bays, steel stud walls at living quarters. Standard metal roofing. Exterior walls masonry water table with E.I.F.S. finish too roof.
