Having done previous renovation work for the owner, M+W was asked to do the same for the Holiday Inn at the Pavilion. The existing hotel had a rather bland, flat gray exterior, with a blue metal roof over the office area extension at the front of the building. The revisions started with replacing the sloped metal roof with another metal roof, but with the appearance of Spanish tile to introduce a Mediterranean style. Along with this, the exterior was repainted to an adobe color, with white accents. The existing elevator tower was given a sloped tile roof to match that of the office wing below. Stucco trims at the tower give the appearance of a supporting colonnade for this work. False columns were also added to the exterior corridors, giving the exterior a more vertical aspect. To further this, the stair towers at each end of the building were panelized with stucco trims, and given blue accent painting. The top of the existing parapet received a carved e.p.s. cornice, in the accent white color. A secondary building of only three stories on the same property was given the same type of stucco and e.p.s. trim treatment at its street façade. This gave the appearance of one property, as is the case, when prior to the renovation the two buildings did not resemble each other.
